Twelve College of Charleston students have tested positive for the H1N1 Virus. The College’s Student Health Service Center announced the confirmed cases today. The students were tested after complaining of flu-like symptoms. The 12 students have been instructed to stay home until fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.

“We are encouraging all of our students to come to Health Services or see their family doctor if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms,”  says Jane Reno-Munro, Director of Health Services.

The College of Charleston plans to distribute the H1N1 vaccine to the campus community when the vaccines become available in October. Meanwhile, the College has ordered regular seasonal flu vaccines for its students, faculty and staff and will begin dispensing the vaccines starting September 14.

The College has established a web page for students, faculty and staff concerning the latest information and updates on the H1N1 virus and what can be done to try to lessen the impact of the flu. The school has also established a comprehensive plan on dealing with a possible widespread outbreak of the H1N1
virus.
