The College of Charleston is hosting a unique film festival. “Taste of Italy” features both Italian films and food in what organizers are calling “an exploration of the unifying power of food and cinema.” The event kicks off on November 5 with an opening reception from 5:30-6:30 featuring food from several local Italian restaurants. Films will be screened in the late afternoon/evening through November 7 at Sottile Theatre.

The first film, “Focaccia Blues” (2009) there will be a question and answer session with director Nico Cirasola. The movie tells the story of two bakers from Altamura who put the local McDonald’s out of business by stealing their customers by enticing them with the local version of fast food: delicious focaccias. This film will be screen on November 5 at 7:00 p.m. “La Gran Bouffe” (1973), “Mid-August Lunch” (2008), “Lessons in Chocolate” (2007) and “Terra Madre” (2009) will also be screened throughout the weekend.
