College of Charleston Chinese professors are hosting a celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Tiger. The celebration will be held on February 12 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at 9 Glebe Street. Chinese food, tea, refreshments, music, and games will be provided. Several activities are also planned for the weekend.

“We want to create a festive atmosphere on campus, introduce Chinese New Year culture, and share the festival joy,” says Lei Jin, assistant professor of Chinese.

Chinese New Year begins on February 14, according to the Chinese calendar which consists of both Gregorian and lunar-solar calendar systems. Because the track of the new moon changes from year to year, Chinese New Year can begin anytime between late January and mid-February.

Chinese professors at the College of Charleston also host Chinese Tea Hours every Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at 9 Glebe Street. Everyone is welcome! Watch a video of Chinese Tea Hour.
