College of Charleston Police Chief Paul Verrecchia is the 2011-2012 President of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). Verrecchia is joined on the Board of Directors by law enforcement administrators from U.S. institutions including Stanford University, Florida State University, and Rice University, as well as administrators from Canada and Bermuda.

Paul V. Verrecchia has more than 38 years of law enforcement experience, including 14 years in campus law enforcement/public safety and 22 years in municipal police experience.  He is the chair of the College’s Emergency Management Team and oversaw the development of the institution’s Emergency Preparedness and Management Plan. Prior to being at the College of Charleston, Paul was the Chief of Police & Director of Public Safety at Brown University (Providence, RI) where he implemented a plan for arming Brown’s campus police officers.

Chief Verrecchia has served as a very active member of the IACLEA Board of Directors since 2007. He served for approximately seven years as a member of the Government Relations Committee.  Paul also served two years as a member of IACLEA’s Accreditation Commission.

Chief Verrecchia holds a Master of Public Administration, with a concentration in Labor Relations, from the University of Rhode Island and two Bachelor’s degrees from Roger Williams University (Bristol, RI).

About the Department of Public Safety

The College of Charleston Department of Public Safety is comprised of 66 dedicated men and women, 35 of whom are sworn law enforcement officers, certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, with state-wide jurisdiction. The Department of Public Safety is comprised of three main units: Uniformed Patrol, Investigations/Crime Prevention and Fire & Life Safety. Our mission is to support the educational mission of the College of Charleston by providing a safe, orderly and secure environment where the students can learn, the faculty can teach and the staff can work to support the College’s learning and teaching environment.
