College, TD Bank Sign Naming Agreement for Arena

23 August 2011 | 2:49 pm By:

The College of Charleston’s basketball and volleyball arena will be renamed TD Arena this fall, under the terms of a new licensing agreement with TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®.

The naming agreement supersedes and replaces the former agreement with Carolina First Bank, which was acquired by TD Bank last year.

The new agreement provides for a one-time payment of $600,000 to the College from TD Bank, which will secure naming rights through June 30, 2018. Under the former agreement, the College already had received payments totaling $412,500 from Carolina First Bank for the naming rights.

Under the terms of a separate gift agreement, the College of Charleston Foundation received a $1 million pledge from the foundation for Carolina First Bank. The gift agreement is not affected or changed by the new licensing agreement.

“The College of Charleston is pleased to partner with TD Bank on this important new chapter in the history of our arena,” says College of Charleston President P. George Benson. “TD Bank is a highly respected and successful financial institution, and we are proud to have the TD Bank name on our arena.”

The TD Arena name will appear on the exterior of the arena, on the court surface, and in other locations throughout the venue.

“TD Bank is excited about our continued partnership with the College of Charleston,” says TD Bank Market President Dixon Woodward. “While this is an excellent opportunity for people to experience our brand, it also serves as a shining example of our continued commitment to Charleston and the region.”
