More than 3,000 accepted students and family members will arrive at the College of Charleston on Friday, March 24, for Accepted Student Weekend 2012. This two-day event helps students who have been accepted to the College of Charleston make their final decision about enrolling at the College and gives a boost to the local economy. Watch a video.

“The event is designed so that parents and students can meet current students, faculty, staff and – we hope – possibly a future roommate!” says Susan Oakes, associate director of admissions. “We love seeing how excited the accepted students are. Many have been counting down for weeks! This event is different from other events we host because the students will be able to meet their peers in the Class of 2016, they will be able to tour all of our residence halls, and they will have time to get comfortable with the campus and the city.”

Friday’s schedule is flexible and is designed to allow families time to explore Charleston as well as the campus. Throughout the day, there will be a variety of panels on topics such as student life, Greek life, pre-law advising, pre-professional health advising, financial aid and more. Buses will be available for families who want to explore off-campus facilities such as the Grice Marine Biology Lab or the College’s sports complex at Patriots Point – both a 10-minute ride from downtown.

There is a set schedule for Saturday’s events. The day begins in the TD Arena at 9:00 a.m. with light refreshments and an academic showcase.  The opening session runs from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.. Professors will give mini-lectures, clubs and organizations will have information available during the street fair and parents will attend their own information session. There will also be tours of the campus and residence halls, and “a day-in the-life-of-a-student” tours as well. At 2:00 p.m., each academic school will host a reception so that faculty can get to know students who are interested in their particular fields.

There will also be special events for admitted Honors College students, multicultural students and students interested in Jewish life on campus.
