The College of Charleston’s Higdon Student Leadership Center is celebrating the first students to complete its Leadership Certificate Program. The program was created to assist students in successfully setting and accomplishing their goals, increase their skill development, as well as effectively articulate and apply their abilities. Graduating seniors Vikki Bernotski, John Pratt, Qi Zheng, Daniel Winters, and Elliot Dickerson are the first recipients of the Leadership Certificate.
To earn their certificate, students must attend six iMPACT workshops, attend two Ann and Lee Higdon Fall Leadership Conferences, hold a leadership position on campus and complete of a personal Leadership Portfolio. As part of their portfolio, students must create a “Reflection Artifact.” Elliot Dickerson and Daniel Winters created videos, Qi Zheng created a website, Vikki Bernotski created a tri-fold, and John Pratt created a photo essay.
“I am so proud of the success of this program, which is evident in the students’ Reflection Artifacts,” says Libby Cole, program coordinator. “We created the certificate to be a cumulative program that would help students tie their experiences together and concisely explain their growth and leadership development at the College – and that is exactly what you see in the artifacts. I am looking forward to seeing this program develop and serve our students in the best way it can.”
