The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture at the College of Charleston will present a free screening of the highly acclaimed HBO documentary The Loving Story on July 26, 2012.  The screening will be held at the Avery Research Center located at 125 Bull Street.

The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the screening starting at 6:00 p.m.

 The documentary details the lives of the high-profile interracial couple Mildred and Richard Loving, whose marriage was the subject the landmark Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, which outlawed state laws targeting interracial marriage. Coupling the Loving’s history-making marriage with opinions of interracial marriage today, The Loving Story showcases the triumphs and continued obstacles of interracial love in the United States today.

The Loving Story ‘s producer and editor Elisabeth Haviland James will be attending this showing and reception.
The Loving Story is produced by HBO Documentaries and Augusta Films and is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The event is free and open to the public.
