For the third year in a row, a record number of College of Charleston students participated in a study abroad experience. A total of 711 degree-seeking students studied abroad in dozens of countries during 2011-12. That is up from 664 in 2010-11 and 619 in 2009-10.

More College-sponsored study abroad programs are also being offered, including three for the spring 2013 semester (Argentina, Cuba, Spain) and two for fall break (Dubai, Honduras).
Professors are currently promoting five spring break study abroad experiences as well as about 31 programs for summer 2013. These do not include the alternative break experiences offered through the Office of Civic Engagement or the First Year Abroad experiences through New Student Programs.
“Students are realizing that prospective employers expect them to have a study abroad experience on their resume,” says Andrew Sobiesuo, associate provost for international education. “The global perspective they gain through studying abroad cannot be replicated in a classroom, but it provides a perfect compliment to the internationalization of our courses.”
