The Fisk Jubilee Singers are vocal artists and students of Fisk University, a historically Black college, established in 1866. In 1871, the original Jubilee Singers introduced ‘slave songs’ or the “Sorrow Songs”—a term coined by Dr. W.E.B. DuBois— to the world and were responsible for preserving this important and uniquely American musical tradition.

In the late 19th century, they traveled to Europe performing before kings and queens, breaking racial barriers, both abroad and here at home.
