Wolf Blitzer and Comm StudentsCollege of Charleston communication students are spending their spring break networking – with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, marketing geniuses at Landor, and more. More than a dozen students are spending two days in Washington D.C. and two days in New York City to learn about potential careers in the communication field and to talk with practitioners.

“This annual trip can be life-changing for our students,” says Beth Goodier, professor and chair of the Department of Communication. “Our Advisory Council members facilitate access to some of the top firms in a number of different communication industries. Executives talk candidly with the students and many return with a much clearer picture of what they’d like to do after graduation.”

While in Washington, students visited Fleishman Hillard, one of the world’s largest and most innovative communication firms, and Ketchum, a global communication firm. They also toured CNN’s Washington Bureau, met Wolf Blitzer and sat in during the live broadcast of The Situation Room. The trip ended with a dose of political communication as they heard from several current and former political press secretaries.

In New York, students visited Peppercomm, a mid-sized agency working with brands like Nikon and Quiznos, as well as Landor, a corporate branding firm, and Edelman, the largest independent public relations firm in the world. Students also toured The New York Times and Bloomberg, offering an opportunity for discussion about the emerging dominance of online journalism.
