Seven new members have been named to the College of Charleston Board of Trustees by the South Carolina General Assembly. The new members assumed their seats on June 1.

“I am honored and pleased to welcome these new board members, and look forward to working with them in the years ahead to continue to improve and enhance the College of Charleston,” said College of Charleston Board of Trustees Chairman Greg Padgett. “I would also like to thank retiring board members Philip Bell, Jimmy Hightower, Dwight Johnson, Marie Land and Larry Miller. Each of these board members has served the College with tireless dedication and a sincere commitment to our unparalleled combination of quality academics and outstanding student experience. They truly have left their mark on the College, which is a better institution because of their service.”

The new board members are:

Renee Goldfinch (7th Congressional District)

Renee Goldfinch is a native Charlestonian. She received a B.A. from the College of Charleston in corporate communications and an M.B.A. from The Citadel.  Mrs. Goldfinch serves on the Georgetown County First Steps Board and the Junior Achievement Board. She currently works with her husband at their law firm and is the Director of Children’s Ministry at her church. Mrs. Goldfinch and her husband, Stephen , live in Murrells Inlet.

Henrietta U. Golding (7th Congressional District)

Henrietta U. Golding, a longtime resident of South Carolina, joined the McNair Law Firm as a Shareholder in the Myrtle Beach office in May 2000. Ms. Golding has a primarily business-related trial practice. She is a Certified Employment Labor Lawyer and a South Carolina Supreme Court Bar Examiner, currently serving  her second six-year term. Previously, for over 20 years, she was a Stockholder and Officer in the law firm of Bellamy, Rutenberg, Copeland, Epps, Gravely & Bowers, P.A., also located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Ms. Golding is a member of the Board of Directors for Coastal Carolina National Bank and serves as the Bank’s Treasurer. She served on the College of Charleston Foundation Board from 1988-2001. Ms. Golding is on the Wall School of Business Board of Visitors at Coastal Carolina University, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation. She also served on the board, and as an officer, for the Coastal Business Women’s Association and the Long Bay Symphonic Society. Ms. Golding graduated from the College of Charleston in 1974 and the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1977.

David Hay (At-Large)

David Hay is a resident of Charleston, S.C., and president/co-founder of Hay Tire Company, Inc. He graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1981 and is a member of Kappa Alpha. Mr. Hay served as Governor Mark Sanford’s appointee to the Board of Trustees from July 2010 to March 2011. He has served multiple terms on the College of Charleston Foundation Board and is past president of the College’s Alumni Association Board. He is a former member of the Charleston Metro Chamber’s Executive Committee and is a past chairman for the Commission of Pilotage for the State of South Carolina. Mr. Hay is married to Mariana Ramsay Hay ’81, owner of Croghan’s Jewel Box on historic King Street in Charleston. They have three children, Kathleen (25), Mariana (22), and Mikell (16).

Pansy King-Reid (5th Congressional District)

Pansy King-Reid is a long time resident of South Carolina. She was born in Chester, S.C., and currently resides in Fort Mill, S.C. She is the proud alumna of Johnson C. Smith University with a B.S. in communications. She matriculated to receive a M.B.A. and is now the marketing director for the Chestnut Firm. Her interests encompass diversity in higher education, global preparedness for students in education, and public health advancement. She is aligned with several boards and membership organizations including the Margie King Sickle Cell Foundation, St. Jude’s Hospital Volunteer, Wright Baseball Scholarship, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Johnson C. Smith University Alumni Association, Rock Hill Booster Club, National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, NAACP, and the National Basketball Wives’ Association. Her most proud accomplishment is being the mother of Kaylah, 19, and Jaylen 18.

Renee Romberger (4th Congressional District)

Renee Romberger is Vice President of Community Health Policy and Strategy at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. She is a 1981 Cum Laude graduate of the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and a student athlete (cheerleader). Mrs. Romberger holds a Master in Health Sciences degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and currently serves as President-elect of the Board of Directors for the SC ACHE Chapter. Mrs. Romberger is a past member of the College of Charleston Foundation Board and Alumni Association Board, and a previous president of the Alumni Upstate Chapter. Her additional professional and community involvement includes the Board of Directors of Welvista, the United Way of the Piedmont, and Access Health Spartanburg, and past president of the Spartanburg Area Conservancy Board of Trustees. Originally from St. Matthews, S.C., Mrs. Romberger resides in Greenville, S.C., with her husband Randy; they have three children and three grandchildren.

Edward L. Thomas, Jr. (3rd Congressional District)

Edward Thomas is a resident of Anderson, S.C. Born in Abbeville, S.C., and graduated cum laude from the College 0of Charleston. In 1978, he graduated from MUSC College of Dental Medicine with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Dr. Thomas has practiced dentistry in Anderson since 1980, being a member of the ADA and SCDA. He and his wife, Susan, have three children, including a daughter who is a 2013 graduate of the College of Charleston.

Ricci Land Welch (6th Congressional District)

Ricci Land Welch is a resident of Manning, S.C., where she practices law with Land, Parker & Welch. Mrs. Welch graduated from the College of Charleston in 1992 with a B.S. in Psychology. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 1995. Mrs. Welch currently serves on several law related boards and committees, serves as the attorney for the Clarendon County Habitat for Humanity, and is the president of the Clarendon County Education Foundation. She served on the Lander University Board of Trustees from 2002-2010. Mrs. Welch is married to James Laurence Welch and they have two children, Anne Land and Jay.
