The College of Charleston will host a reception celebrating the life and legacy of Guy E. Beatty, Jr. Guy passed away on October 4, 2013 at his home in Virginia. The reception will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 8 until 10 p.m. in the Beatty Center (5 Liberty Street). It follows a memorial service from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Asbury St. James United Methodist Church
 (754 Rutledge Avenue). The public is invited to both events.

Friends of the Beatty family and members of the College of Charleston community will share in the memories, contributions and spirit of Guy, and his lasting legacy of generosity and pioneering leadership.
Guests will also have the opportunity to extend condolences to Betty, John (son), 
Susi (daughter) and Brian (grandson) during the reception.

The Beatty Center, home to the School of Business and completed in 2005, is named in honor of the lead gift from Guy; his wife, Betty; and the Beatty family. The facility is an important factor in the College’s reputation as a nationally ranked educational institution.

Each year, Guy also provided scholarships for School of Business students. Since establishing the Guy Beatty Scholarship fund in 1997, more than 210 scholarships have been awarded to students making up what is affectionately called the “Beatty Bunch.” These scholars, who demonstrate outstanding academic records and potential, represent the best and brightest in the School of Business.

Guy’s generosity was not limited to his philanthropy; he also gave of his time and expertise as a member of the School of Business’ Board of Governors. To recognize Guy and Betty’s exemplary leadership, the School of Business honored them as members of the inaugural class on their Wall of Honor in 2011.
