The College of Charleston joined Instagram last month as @CollegeofCharleston and has found no shortage of breathtakingly photogenic locations around the peninsula. In a city that boasts tapered cobblestone streets, a palmetto-tree-lined view of the harbor and three pristine beaches within a 30-minute drive, it was understandably difficult to come up with just five of the most Instagrammable places, but the searching #Charleston in Instagram’s explore tab helped narrow the options.

Folly

5. Folly Beach

@quintessence took this shot of Folly Beach on an overcast day, showing off the overgrown dunes at high tide.

King St

4. King Street

Thanks to @arcadejac for this photo of the charming, low buildings on King Street.

harbour

3. The Silicon Harbor

Ok, maybe it’s more photogenic as the Charleston Harbor, but this part of the Lowcountry is as innovative as it is beautiful. Thanks to @sarahgraif for this shot!

bridge

2. The Cooper River Bridge

This suspension bridge has become an iconic part of Charleston attracting runners, walkers and cyclists in addition to car traffic.

Battery

1. The Battery

It’s pretty hard to compete with the view from South Battery Street, with antebellum mansions set back from the street and Fort Sumter ahead. @mikhaylam’s sums up this location with this beautiful photo!
