For more than half a century, Gordon has visually captured the customs, culture, history, and traditions of the African American community in South Carolina. In fact, much of his work celebrates his rural South Carolina farm upbringing and roots. Accordingly, Gordon asserts, “I want my paintings to have meaning to all people who see them and enjoy them. I think you will agree that my art celebrates the unforgettable heritage, history, and culture that we have all experienced.

Gordon’s recently published book, The Unique Art of Floyd Gordon, will be available for purchase on the evening of the opening. The handsome limited edition book which retails for $175.00 contains 368 richly illustrated pages with gilded edges. The large leather bound book enclosed in a protective slipcase, published by Cecil Williams Photography / Publishing of Orangeburg, includes the artist’s commentary about the inspiration for many of his works.
