The College of Charleston Class of 2014, which graduated on May 9 and 10, 2014, has already begun to change the world. More than 1,600 graduates walked across the Cistern stage, representing 40 states, 22 countries and the many entrepreneurial ventures, scientific discoveries, published works and sustainability efforts they developed at the College.

The morning undergraduate commencement ceremonies featured the School of Business; School of Education, Health and Human Performance; and School of Sciences and Mathematics. The afternoon ceremony featured the School of the Arts; School of Humanities and Social Sciences; and School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs.

Senator Tim Scott delivered the undergraduate commencement address. Senator Scott, along with Marie Land and Marlene Addlestone-Bursten received honorary degrees at the morning ceremony.

The commencement ceremony for the Graduate School of the College of Charleston took place on May 9, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. in TD Arena (301 Meeting St.). South Carolina Ports Authority CEO James I Newsome, III spoke at this ceremony. Newsome became President & CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority on September 1, 2009, and is only the fifth leader in the history of the organization. He was previously President of Hapag-Lloyd (America), Inc., which is part of the world’s fifth-largest ocean shipping company.

Philanthropist and community leader Edwin S. Pearlstine joined about 150 graduates of the Graduate School to receive an honorary degree during the ceremony.
