The College of Charleston women’s sailing team placed eighth overall at the 2014 Sperry Top-Sider Women’s National Championships, while the Cougars placed ninth at the Annapolis Performance Sailing (APS) Team Race National Championships.

Women’s sailing placed eighth at the 2014 Sperry Top-Sider Women’s National Championships.

The No. 5 ranked women beat out 10 other top national teams during the 17-race, two-division series held in Annapolis, Md. In the team race, the Cougars compiled a 9-6 record.

The College’s sailors will attempt to repeat as national champions at the Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship, which runs from June 3-6, 2014, at St Mary’s College of Maryland.

The College if one of 36 teams vying for the Henry A. Morss Trophy. Currently ranked the No. 5 co-ed team in the country, the Cougars previously won back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007.
