As the College of Charleston baseball team heads to the NCAA SBaseball pile featureduper Regionals this week, there are a few things that you need to know in order to be a better informed Cougar baseball fan.

Here is a list of 9 quick facts about the Cougars:


 1. We have been here before.

The College of Charleston went to the NCAA tournament in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2014. The Cougars advanced to the Super Regionals in baseball in 2006.  Watch more of our strong baseball history.


 2. This is the first year that the College of Charleston has been a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.

We celebrated by winning the CAA baseball tournament.


3. Cougar Daniel Aldrich won NCAA Home Run Derby in 2012

Watch him swing for the fences.


gardnercharleston 4. Brett Gardner is also a Cougar. Yes, THAT Brett Gardner

He was a walk-on player for the College in 2003. He now wears the pinstripes in Yankee stadium. Earlier this year, College of Charleston unveiled a special outfield display on the wall in left-center field, showcasing Gardner and his accomplishments.


 5. You want to see some of the local talent?

Over half of the College of Charleston baseball players are from South Carolina.


6. We also have a Field of Dreams

Located in the shadows of the Ravenel Bridge and the USS Yorktown in Charleston harbor, the College of Charleston home park at Patriot’s Point is one of the most picturesque college parks in the nation.


7. Our Head Coach is in the Top 10

Head Coach Monte Lee has been named one of Baseball America’s Top 10 Head Coaches Under 40 in all of college baseball.  He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston.


8. The College knows how to go the extra mile.

Earlier this year, the College had a 23-inning game against William and Mary. The game was the second-longest game in NCAA history. By the way, we won that game 3-2. This highlight film is a lot shorter than the game itself.
