The College of Charleston volleyball team will open its season on Aug. 29, 2014, as the lady Cougars look to defend their title as 2013 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament champions.
The CAA has selected the Cougars as the favorites to win the 2014 league volleyball title.
In addition to 15 home matches in TD Arena, the team will compete in the CAA’s six-state footprint as well as travel to matches in Texas and Georgia.
“We are excited about another challenging schedule in 2014,” said head coach Jason Kepner. “We certainly lost a very successful senior class, but we have a great group returning and a number of newcomers that can make an impact on this level very quickly.”
Last season, the Cougars went 13-1 in their inaugural season in the CAA en route to the tournament championship. It was the team’s 13th-straight regular season or tournament championship, which ranks as the second-longest streak in the nation.
In the season-opener on Aug. 29 the Cougars will host Davidson, Mercer and Kent State in a four-team tournament at TD Arena. Conference play begins at home on Sept. 26, 2014, when the College hosts Towson and Delaware.
The team returns 10 players from last year’s championship squad: Four All-CAA honorees will be in the starting lineup, including Sloane White (First Team), Cara Howley (Second Team), Melissa Morello (Third Team) and Kallie McKown (Setter of the Year).
