The 2014-15 academic year officially begins at 10 a.m. on Aug.18, 2014, with the College of Charleston’s annual Convocation.

The event is an opportunity for faculty and staff to welcome the incoming class into the College community. The occasion also serves to familiarize new students with the College’s history and traditions. All new undergraduate students are expected to attend.Convocation-featured

To start the morning’s program, faculty will meet with small groups of incoming students in assigned locations across campus for conversations about what it means to have joined a liberal arts and sciences community.

Following the small-group discussions, students and faculty will convene in Cistern Yard. Students will pass through the arch of Porter’s Lodge as they enter Cistern Yard, signaling their official entry into the College.

The event concludes with brief welcoming remarks by the president and provost.
