CofClogoThe College of Charleston, in collaboration with Gil Shuler Graphic Design of Mount Pleasant, today unveiled a new logo that features historic Randolph Hall in the heart of campus.

The new logo, which combines the existing College of Charleston word mark with a new graphic rendition of Randolph Hall and its surroundings, is the result of a yearlong process led by a committee of representatives from the offices of alumni relations, president’s office, athletics, and marketing and communications.

“Throughout the logo development process, which included focus groups with alumni, students, faculty and staff, we heard loud and clear that Randolph Hall and the Cistern Yard are the heart of our College,” says Jack Huguley, director of alumni relations. “The Alumni Association board is thrilled that this enhanced logo system captures the spirit and storied history of our beautiful campus.”

The new logo incorporates a rendition of Randolph Hall, the grass-covered cistern that sits in front of the building, and the live oak trees that shade the Cistern Yard.

Gil Shuler Graphic Design also created the new College of Charleston athletics logo and visual identity, which was unveiled in August 2013.

“We looked at a lot of possibilities,” says Gil Shuler. “But this logo, featuring Randolph Hall and the Cistern Yard, is the one that gives you the same feeling you get when you step into that space on campus.”

The new logo will appear on stationery and business cards, as well as on the College’s website and on banners and other signage throughout the campus.

“Our internal team was fortunate to work with Gil Shuler Design, a highly respected firm that has created so many of the iconic logos and designs seen in our city,” says College of Charleston President Glenn McConnell. “As an alumnus, I’m proud that this new logo acknowledges our historic past at the same time we look toward our bright future.”
