Senator Rand Paul will participate in a town hall event at the College of Charleston on September 30, 2014. The event will be held in Alumni Hall starting at 1 p.m.

imageThe town hall is a joint effort of the College’s Department of Political Science and the Department of Communication, this event is part of The Bully Pulpit Series, a non-partisan event series that encourages and facilitates civic participation throughout the campus community by providing a platform for dialogue with our nation’s leaders.

Rand Paul became involved in politics in 1994, when he founded Kentucky Taxpayers United, a watchdog group that tracked taxation and spending in Kentucky until it dissolved in 2000. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010.

Senator Paul has been a vocal advocate for term limits, a balanced-budget amendment, a Read the Bills Act, and an audit of the Federal Reserve. He has gained prominence for his independent positions on many political issues.

A graduate of Duke University School of Medicine, Rand was a practicing ophthalmologist in Bowling Green, Ky., for 17 years.

The town hall meeting is free and open to the public.
