The College of Charleston School of Business’ Initiative for Public Choice & Market Process (IPCMP) announced the first class of Market Process Scholars, three students recognized for their exceptional academic records and interest in economics in November 2014. Three students Schylar Brock, a junior economics and mathematics double major, Elizabeth Mandell, a sophomore economics major, and Mary Frances Zeager, a junior economics major are the inaugural scholars. All three are also students in the Honors College.

The Market Process Scholars program strives to improve students’ understanding of the economic, political, and moral foundations of a free society through an enhanced curriculum including tours of regional organizations, academic mentoring, economic roundtable discussions, economics book colloquiums, brownbag policy discussions, and business etiquette training.
“These three students represent the goals of the IPCMP through their commitment to a rounded, liberal arts approach to learning about economics,” Peter Calcagno, professor of economics and IPCMP director said.
Each student selected as a Market Process Scholar is dedicated to economics and another field – Brock minors in film studies, Mandell minors in data science with a music industry concentration, and Zeager minors in Asian studies and mathematics. In addition, each student volunteers and participates in multiple extracurricular groups and activities, such as Greek Life organizations and on-campus clubs.
The IPCMP plans to announce two new Market Process Scholars during the fall 2015 semester.
Founded in 2008, the IPCMP regularly brings world-class speakers to the School of Business. It works to engage students in the Charleston business community as a means of immersive learning.
