The college baseball season starts this weekend and the College of Charleston Cougars are once again a team to watch.

Here are six reason to get excited about the upcoming season:

Baseball Featured 1. Baseball Honors.

The College of Charleston is expected to be a national powerhouse again in 2015. The cougars are ranked No. 25 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball in their preseason poll. This is one the heels of finishing the season last year as the #16 best program in the nation.

2. Even Non-Baseball People are Honoring Us.

The College of Charleston is the only team this year to have the South Carolina General Assembly pass a resolution honoring their 2014 baseball season, which makes sense since 2014 was the season the Cougars went to the Super Regionals. No other South Carolina team went that far.

3. See Tomorrow’s Major Leaguers Today.

College of Charleston right-handed sophomore Bailey Ober was named Pre-Season All-American by Collegiate Baseball. We have a track record of sending players to major league teams – just look at Brett Gardner – so keep your eyes peeled for the next all star out of Patriot’s Point before he goes pro.

 4. Look for a Lot of Offense.

For the first time in 40 years, the college baseball season will begin with teams using an altered ball. The new, lower-seam baseball is expected to carry up to 20 feet farther if hit well. The new ball is more aerodynamic because its seams are about one-third shorter. Expect to see more of the long ball.

 5. We have the Full Monte.

Under Head Coach Monte Lee, the Cougars have reached three NCAA Tournaments and one NCAA Super Regional. Maybe that is why he was named one of the best  one of Baseball America’s Top 10 Head Coaches Under 40 in all of college baseball.
