Healthcare administrators looking to finish or earn their bachelor’s degree now have their chance through the College of Charleston’s Bachelor of Professional Studies program. Designed for current medical care administrators and clinicians with academic backgrounds, students who pursue a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Medical Services Management will gain a better understanding of healthcare structure, finance, operations management, law and regulation, and leadership. More broadly speaking, this degree concentration will allow students to succeed in a booming economic sector – the healthcare field.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn about management, leadership dynamics, and regulatory challenges of one of the largest industries in the local economy,” says Godfrey Gibbison, dean of the College’s School of Professional Studies. “Nationally, nearly $1 of every $5 of income in the economy is generated by the healthcare industry.  Healthcare is a large segment of the regional economy in the Charleston metro, and will only continue to grow in the foreseeable future.”

The Bachelor of Professional Studies program, which debuted in the fall of 2013, is a degree-completion program within the College’s School of Professional Studies that combines online and on-site classes in an effort to accommodate the busy lives of working professionals.  Classes are offered in the evenings and during the day on weekends, making it a perfect option for adult students who are seeking skills with immediate application at work, at home and within their community.

Students interested in the new Medical Services Management concentration can attend an open house on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 6 p.m. in Room 110 in the College’s North Campus building (map).
