In recognition of the United Nations’ declaration of 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, the College of Charleston will present a lecture by optical scientist James Coleman on April 16, 2015.

The lecture will be held in room 129 of the School of Sciences and Mathematics Building at 4 p.m.

Coleman is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Optical Society of America, the International Society for Optics and Photonics and the American Physical Society. He is a former president of the IEEE Photonics Society and was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering.

His talk, titled “Light: the 21st century Photonics Revolution,” will describe several aspects of light-based technologies.

The program is free and open to the public.
