College of Charleston outfielder Ryan Brown and right-handed pitcher Bailey Ober were named to the preseason All-CAA team, the Colonial Athletic Association office announced on Jan. 26, 2016. Erven Roper, Bradley Jones and Carter Love landed on the honorable mention list, while the Cougars were picked to finish second by the league’s coaches.

 College of Charleston opens its season at Patriots Point on Feb. 19 against Nebraska.

baseballs- feature“It’s certainly a deserving honor for all five of our players; they work hard both on and off the field,” College of Charleston head baseball coach Matt Heath said. “We have high goals set for the upcoming season and there is no doubt we will be relying on these guys to help the team accomplish our goals.”

 Brown, a native of Columbia, S.C., batted .320 with five home runs 26 RBI and 15 stolen bases en route to being named Louisville Slugger, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and D1Baseball.com Freshman All-American. He was also an All-CAA Rookie team selection finishing second in the league with 63 runs scored and 37 walks. Brown’s 15 steals ranked fifth in the CAA, while the sophomore struck out just 26 times in 289 plate appearances.

 Ober (Business Administration) earned preseason honors after sitting out last season due to injury. The 6-foot-8 Charlotte, N.C., native was named NCBWA Freshman of the Year and CAA Rookie of the Year following a 10-3 campaign in 2014 in which he posted a league-best 1.52 ERA.
