Historic preservation students and staff traveled to Cuba over Spring Break in early March 2016 to examine firsthand the country’s magnificent architecture.
Led by Grant Gilmore, director of the College’s Historic Preservation and Community Planning Program, the trip included a tour of Havana’s buildings, visits to Havana museums, and fascinating glimpses of Cuban culture that outsiders have come to expect, such as vintage American automobiles and cigarmakers.
The College’s trip to Cuba predated President Barack Obama’s historic trip to the island nation by two weeks. Obama is the first sitting American president to visit Cuba since Calvin Coolidge in 1928.
The College also offers a spring semester study abroad experience in Cuba.
