Freshman Chevez Goodwin, a 6-foot-9 freshman from Columbia, S.C., will look to make an impact this season for the College of Charleston men’s basketball team.

Goodwin, who goes by the nickname “Chevy,” helped lead Hammond School to a 27-3 overall record, state semifinal appearance and a national ranking in the USA TODAY Super 25 high school poll during his senior season. He averaged 18.9 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game and was tabbed Player of the Year, all-state, all-district and all-region.

“We are really excited to have Chevez in our program,” CofC Head Coach Earl Grant said. “He is skilled and athletic. He had a great summer and played well with Jarrell Brantley and Nick Harris, so we will be able to use him in a lot of different ways. He shot the ball well and made threes. He is really hungry to be a good player at the next level. It is unique to have a guy with his height and length, have his type of skill level. He is definitely prepared to come into college and help us as a freshman.”
