Charleston County has contracted with Sanders Brothers Construction Company to mill and resurface Calhoun Street between East Bay Street and Barre Street in downtown Charleston. This work includes sidewalk and curb ramp repairs, milling (removing 1 ½ inches of old asphalt), re-paving with new asphalt and pavement markings.

The project will begin Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, and continue through Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. Work hours are between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights (no weekend work). During these times one-half of Calhoun Street will be closed to traffic for several blocks, and flaggers will direct traffic through the construction zone. There will be no parking on Calhoun Street within the construction zone during these hours. “No parking” signs will be placed on traffic cones and parking meters. Vehicles parked within the construction zone will be towed by the City of Charleston Police at the owner’s expense.

This project is funded by the Charleston County Transportation Committee and managed by Charleston County Transportation Development Department. Charleston County will have a construction inspector on site during working hours and will be available to respond to any issues as necessary. If you should have any questions or concerns, contact Danny Mikell, CEI Foreman, at 843.810.2085 or dmikell@charlestoncounty.org.
