Student teams from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (Durham, North Carolina), Porter Gaud High School (Charleston) and Carrboro High School (Carrboro, North Carolina) were the big winners in the College of Charleston’s 35th Annual High School Programming Competition over the weekend.  The College’s Department of Computer Science hosted the event that featured more than 18 high school teams from North and South Carolina.

Students participate in the 35th Annual High School Programming Competition

The competition is designed to encourage computing education for high school students at all levels.  Utilizing Python and Java, teams are allotted two hours to collaborate and solve eight problems.

The competition concluded with an awards ceremony and talk from sponsor, Christopher O’Rourke, director of NodeSC, CEO and founder of Soteria.

The team from North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics took first place in the competition.  The team from Porter Gaud High School placed second and Carrboro High School took third place.
