The goal of fair and balanced journalism can be difficult to achieve under most circumstances. But in today’s Middle East, where the political landscape changes daily, it is more challenging than ever.

The Arnold Distinguished Visiting Chair in Jewish Studies, Allison Kaplan Sommer, will address this topic on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at 9 a.m. in the Sylvia Vlosky Yaschik Jewish Studies Center, located at 96 Wentworth St.

Kaplan Sommer, who reports for Haaretz and is the former Washington, D.C., correspondent, feature writer and critic for the Jerusalem Post, will share her professional and personal observations on keeping up with changes in the Middle East, how they affect events in the region and the way Israel and its neighbors are perceived and treated internationally.
