Retired United States Navy Adm. William H. McRaven will be the keynote speaker of the College of Charleston Friends of the Library’s Winthrop Roundtable event at 6 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2017, at the Gaillard Center.

McRaven’s speech, “A Life in Lessons,” will focus on inspirational and informative wisdom drawn from his life of exceptional public service in the U.S. military and as a leader in higher education.

McRaven led U.S. Special Operations Command that organized and oversaw the 2011 Osama bin Laden raid. A retired U.S. Navy SEAL, four-star admiral and No. 1 New York Timesbestselling author of Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…and Maybe the World, McRaven currently serves as the Chancellor of the University of Texas System.

In keeping with the Winthrop Roundtable’s mission of highlighting unique viewpoints, McRaven’s address will explore the straightforward principles he’s followed throughout his career in the highest echelon of public service – which anyone can adopt to change themselves, and the world, for the better.

Friends of the Library at the Contributor-level and above receive two premier box-tier seats and an opportunity to meet McRaven during a private reception following his address. Orchestra-level seats are available to all Friends of the Library at the $75-level. Gallery-level tickets are $15.
