Students and Faculty work on a quilt in honor of LGBTQ history.

Students and Faculty work on a quilt in honor of LGBTQ history. The finished quilt will go on display on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017.

Observed in October, LGBTQ History Month is an annual observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer history, and the history of gay rights and related civil rights. The unveiling of the quilt, which commemorates LGBTQ history, will begin with a brief reception held in Rivers Green from 12-12:30 p.m. CofC students Leon Williams, president of Prism, and Mikayla Drost, LGBTQ affairs liaison for the Student Government Association, will provide brief remarks.

The quilt will hang in the rotunda of Addlestone Library from Nov. 6 to Nov. 10, 2017. Statistics show that the LGBTQ community is at four-times the risk for suicide, social stigma, discrimination, unsafe schools and ineffective providers. Through this project, the departments and students involved hope to show the College’s LGBTQ students, faculty and staff that they have the support of the entire campus community.
