Dear Campus Community,

The College of Charleston will be closed on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, due to the forecasted severe winter weather conditions and the announced closure of Charleston County Government services.

Only faculty and staff members identified by their supervisors as essential personnel (primarily those in the areas of residence life, food services, public safety and physical plant) should report to the downtown campus on Wednesday, January 3.

Please note the following:

• Residence halls will open, as previously scheduled, on Wednesday, January 3, at 12:00 p.m. to accommodate those students scheduled to move in/return to campus.

• Food services will be limited on Wednesday. Only Liberty Street Fresh Foods Company (on the corner of St. Philip and Liberty streets) will be open, starting at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

• Orientation sessions – originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday – will take place only on Friday, January 5. Students and families registered for orientation will be contacted by email regarding the modified schedule. Because of the change in orientation sessions, students may elect to move in on Thursday, January 4, at 12:00 p.m.

• The STEP workshop for returning students scheduled for Wednesday, January 3, has been cancelled and the activities will be rescheduled. Students will be contacted directly by staff via email regarding advising and registration for the spring semester.

Please be aware that conditions may be dangerous on local roads and bridges, so please plan accordingly and don’t travel unless necessary.

College officials will continue to monitor weather conditions and will update the campus community via CougarAlert on Wednesday regarding any changes to Thursday’s operations and work schedule. Please check local media and National Weather Service bulletins for the latest updates.
