The College of Charleston’s Sustainability Literacy Institute wants to stem the tide of flooding with a day-long event aimed at identifying solutions for the Lowcountry’s perennial over flow of water.

The event dubbed a “Floodathon” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Stern Center Ballroom, 71 George St., on the College of Charleston campus. The event aims to bring together a diverse group of people to brainstorm solutions to help residents living in disadvantaged communities mitigate the impacts of flooding. The Floodathon’s goal is to use Human-Centered Design and Biomimicry to understand, brainstorm, test and ultimately create real solutions.

At Floodathon, content experts will make presentations throughout the day to help spur conversation and build ideas. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Attendees can choose to attend the entire day; the first half from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., which will focus on the issues and brainstorming solutions; or the second half from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. where groups will model, test and share their solutions.
