March 28, 2018, is bound to be a day of significant impact on the College of Charleston campus. That’s when the College will host Impact Day, a partnership between the College of Charleston School of Business and investment firm In Place Impact.

Sergio Fernando de Cordova

The event is the brainchild of In Place Impact’s founder and chairman Stuart Williams. An impact investment expert and an entrepreneur-in-residence for the College’s School of Business, Williams predicts that the individuals who innovate solutions for humanity and the planet are likely to have the greatest wealth accumulation over the next 50 years.

As part of Impact Day, students are invited to attend the free George G. Spaulding Distinguished Executive Speaker Series, which takes place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on March 28 at the Wells Fargo Auditorium. This year’s speaker is Peruvian-American entrepreneur Sergio Fernando de Cordova, co-founder of advertising company Fuel Outdoor, which makes use of buildings, scaffolding and urban spaces. Cordova has since founded several more organizations that demonstrate how socially conscientious investing is as good for society as it is for the bottom line. Seating is limited for this event and registration is required.

Impact Day will demonstrate the many innovative ways in which entrepreneurs can make a profit while making a difference. The event brings together investors, innovators and students to benefit from the combined expertise of leading impact entrepreneurs.

Impact Day also celebrates the newly launched Stuart M. Williams Impact Day Scholars program, which fosters professional development opportunities for students including mentorships with visionary business leaders. The inaugural class of six scholars includes Sofia Troya, a political science major from Ecuador. Troya is using her scholarship to help impoverished children like those in her hometown of Quito and to use her knowledge of the environment to ensure communities like these prosper in sustainable ways.
