The College of Charleston is recognizing its first Global Scholars in a ceremony on September 8 at 3:30 p.m. in Arnold Hall in the Jewish Studies Center (96 Wentworth Street). The Global Scholars program offers a designation that any interested faculty member or student can earn to show their knowledge, understanding and commitment to globalization. This program is unique in the nation for its inclusiveness of faculty and all students regardless of major or academic achievement.

To earn the Global Scholar designation, faculty and students must demonstrate language proficiency, incorporate international/global courses and extracurricular activities into their academic studies and students must complete a study abroad experience. Faculty members are required to reapply for
their Global Scholar designation every five years.

The first faculty members to earn their Global Scholar designation will be awarded and students interested in the designation can learn more at this event. The first student global scholars could graduate as early as December 2009.
