The College of Charleston’s new Cougar Shuttle safely transported more than 200 students during its inaugural weekend. The Cougar Shuttle is a 14-seat passenger van dedicated to safe transportation for College of Charleston students anywhere on the peninsula on Friday and Saturday nights from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. This service is free and students must show their Cougar Card.
“Our first weekend for the shuttle was an amazing success,” said Evelyn Nadal, associate dean of students. “So many female students, many traveling alone, told us their parents would be thrilled with their safe ride home. We picked up students who were just getting off work, some who were going to watch movies and some who had been out in the city.”
The Cougar Shuttle is currently operating under a 10-week pilot program to see if it answers the safety needs and concerns of students and parents. During this trial period, SafeRide will be available as well. Cougar Shuttle is a direct result of the recommendations that were made by the Clean Slate Committee – a group of students that assisted the administration this past summer in seeking new and innovative ways to handle student safety issues on campus.
The telephone number that goes to the shuttle driver directly is 888-960-2227. Depending on the night and the need, there could be more than one van operating. Charleston Executive Limousine Service is working with the College to provide Cougar Shuttle.
