College of Charleston Professor Scott Poole has released a book on the devil just in time for Halloween. Poole’s newest book, “Satan in America: The Devil We Know,” looks at how the American image of the devil has changed and developed in politics, religion and pop culture. Poole will be signing books and giving a talk at the Charleston County Public Library’s main branch on October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Author Edward J. Blum says, “W. Scott Poole offers a brilliant book about the prince of darkness in our current and historical consciousness. This is an outstanding work.”
“Poole’s engaging, wide-ranging survey of Satan in America from the Puritans to the War on Terror is an insightful and provocative counterpoint to works by Stephen Prothero and others of Jesus in America,” said Paul Harvey of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. “Poole shows how much the enemy
always has been within us and then projected outward.”
