The Global Business Resource Center at the College of Charleston is once again offering the opportunity for students, faculty and community members to become NASBITETM-certified Global Business ProfessionalTM (CGBPTM) designees. The demand for international business skills is high and research done by NASBITETM shows that companies are having difficulty finding globally trained professionals. The College will offer a CGBPTM training course on November 13 and 14 in the Beatty Center of the School of Business. Participants will have the opportunity to take the national CGBPTM exam at the College in February.

The CGBPTM credential sets the benchmark for global trade knowledge. Certification shows employers that an individual has the knowledge required to be successful in the global commerce arena. The CGBPTM designation demonstrates an individual’s expertise in the four knowledge domains tested in the national exam: global business management, global marketing, global supply chain management and international trade finance.

During the November two-day CGBPTM training course, four of the College’s eight CGBPTM-certified School of Business faculty will teach all four domains that are covered by the exam. They will devote a half day to each domain. Anyone who is interested may take the entire four-part course, or may choose to take individual half-day sessions, in order to improve the areas where their knowledge is weakest. Participants who complete the training course and pass the College’s own test of their global business knowledge will also earn a College of Charleston Certificate of Course Completion.

“The fact that we already have eight certified faculty members  – with more planning to take the CGBPTM exam – shows our commitment to a global education,” said Kathryn Banks, associate director of the Global Business Resource Center. “These professors are able to impress upon College of Charleston students the importance of a strong global business education. As globalization continues, the global awareness that the School of Business instills in its graduates, through programs like the CGBPTM, will keep them competitive in the worldwide labor force.”

In addition to the national exam scheduled for February 20, 2010, a CGBPTM overview session will be held on January 23. The overview session outlines the entire range of topics covered in the national exam, thereby allowing individuals to decide where their knowledge gaps exist before they settle on which parts of the training to take. In May and June, 2010, prior to the national exam date in June, the College will offer the full CGBPTM training course once again.
