The Department of Communication honors 130 undergraduate majors for being on the Communication Honor Roll for the 2009 Fall Semester.
Students qualify for the honor roll when they are communication majors enrolled for 12 or more credit hours and earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Of the 130 students receiving this recognition, six had perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the semester.
“I’m pleased we can recognize these undergraduates for their academic accomplishments,” said Brian McGee, chair of the Department of Communication. “Such high marks are quite difficult to earn at the College of Charleston, with fewer than 20% of communication majors earning the honor roll distinction for the most recent semester.”
The students who earned honor roll status for Fall 2009 are a diverse group, representing every region of South Carolina, the District of Columbia, and 19 other states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Those students earning the honor roll designation in both the fall semester and the spring semester receive a certificate in recognition of their academic achievements for the year. Honor roll certificates are written in Latin, out of respect for the classical tradition at the College of Charleston and the study of rhetoric and communication in the liberal arts.
With one of the largest undergraduate major at the College of Charleston, the Department of Communication enrolls more than 800 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs. Students in the department study such topics as political communication, interpersonal communication, journalism, and public relations. The department is housed in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
