Scenes from the College of Charleston appear in the movie ,“DEAR JOHN,” which opened nationwide on February 5, 2010. Actors Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried star in the movie, based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks. The movie was filmed in Charleston, with scenes based in the College’s Porter’s Lodge, the Cistern Yard and Physician’s Promenade.

The movie opens to all audiences on February 5, 2010. Directed by Lasse Halstrom, “DEAR JOHN” tells the story of John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a young soldier home on leave, and Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), the idealistic college student he falls in love with during her spring vacation. Over the next seven tumultuous years, the couple is separated by John’s increasingly dangerous deployments. While meeting only sporadically, they stay in touch by sending a continuous stream of love letters overseas – correspondence that eventually triggers fatal consequences.
The movie premiered in Charleston on January 24 at the waterfront Hippodrome Theater. It was followed by a Hollywood style after-party next door at the South Carolina Aquarium.
