The College of Charleston is participating in the 21st Annual African American Read-In on February 16 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m in room 227 of the Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library. More than one million readers of all ethnic groups from 49 states, the West Indies, and African countries have participate din past read-ins. The goal is to make the celebration of African-American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.
The African American Studies Program is organizing the College’s participation, which will include snacks and door prizes. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to stop by and read aloud from their favorite works of African-American literature.
Sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Read-In has been endorsed by the International Reading Association.
