College of Charleston senior communication major Christina Lysacek is the younger sister of Olympic figure skating gold medalist Evan Lysacek. Evan is the first American male figure skater to win the gold since 1988.

Christina just returned from watching her brother compete in Vancouver. Watch a video.

“No one deserves the gold medal more than Evan. He has worked extremely hard the last four years to make the team, and to have him not only make the team but to finish the competition on top of the podium means so much to him and my entire family,” Christina says.

The Lysaceks graduated from Neuqua Valley High School in Illinois and Evan currently trains in Los Angeles, while Christina has attended the College of Charleston the past three and a half years. The entire family went to Vancouver to watch Evan compete.

“Since he was reigning world champion going into the Olympics he felt there was a ton of pressure on him to win,” Christina says. Once he got to Vancouver, I think he got his confidence back. The few times my family got to see him before he competed, he seemed very calm and ready.”

“I was a nervous wreck,” she says. “I was nervous because as a spectator you feel hopeless; you have no control over the outcome. Sitting in the stands waiting for him to skate, you have so much time to think about all the things that could go wring, which just makes me more nervous!”
