The College of Charleston has announced the speakers for the College’s 2010 May Commencement Exercises.
The commencement speaker for the College of Charleston undergraduate ceremonies will be Marco Cavazzoni, vice president and general manager of Final Assembly and Delivery at Boeing Company in Charleston.
Lucy Beckham, the 2010 National High School Principal of the Year will be the commencement speaker at the Graduate School of the College of Charleston ceremony.
Cavazzoni was recently named vice president and general manager of Final Assembly and Delivery for Boeing Company in Charleston. In this role, he is responsible for implementing the new 787 final assembly and delivery operations for Boeing Commercial Airplanes at the Charleston site. Prior to his current position, Cavazzoni served as vice president of Technical Services for the Boeing Commercial Aviation Services. In this role, he managed a broad range of global products and services including freighter conversions, airplane upgrades, fleet management, aviation infrastructure, Boeing Shanghai and aviation information services.
For the past twelve years, Beckham has served as principal of Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Earlier this year, she was named the 2010 MetLife/ NASSP National High School Principal of the Year for her visionary leadership and commitment to excellence in every area of school life. Her educational career includes 16 years in the classroom as a high school math teacher and 17 years as a school administrator.
An honorary degree will also be presented to Charleston philanthropist Anita Zucker. She is Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer for The InterTech Group, Inc. Zucker is also a partner in the Carolina Ice Palace, the South Carolina Stingrays, the Sunfire Grill and Bistro and Tristan Restaurant on Market Street.
The Graduate School of the College of Charleston ceremony will be on May 7, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in Sottile Theatre. The two undergraduate commencements will be held on May 8, 2010 in Cistern Yard starting at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
