Planetary scientist James Bell will present a program entitled “Postcards from Mars: The Continuing, Amazing Adventures of the Spirit and Opportunity Rovers” at the College of Charleston on April 16. The presentation will be held at 6:15 p.m. in the auditorium of the New Science Building.
The event is free and open to the public.
In 2004, NASA successfully landed twin rovers on Mars in the most ambitious mission of robotic exploration ever attempted. Bell, a Professor of Astronomy at Cornell University, was the lead scientist responsible for the rovers’ Pancam color imaging system.
In this presentation, Bell will share his favorite images and stories from “inside” mission operations, and describe the major scientific findings made by each rover at each site during their more than six Earth year adventures.
