The College of Charleston Center for Civic Engagement will team up with Upward Bound this summer to provide volunteers for local non-profits. On Thursdays from June 10 to June 24, students in the Upward Bound Summer Program will volunteer with participating community partners including Charleston Area Children’s Garden Project, Therapeutic Recreation, Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry and the Boys and Girls Club.

Through the summer program, Upward Bound students will spend their summer developing leadership skills and serving as mentors for younger students and children. In addition to engaging in service projects with community partners, students will receive training on aspects of mentoring and volunteering, and analyze their service through quality reflection activities.

College of Charleston Center for Civic Engagement has worked with community partners to develop service opportnities for Upward Bound students and will train the Upward Bound counselors on community engagement and reflection activities.

The Upward Bound Program is sponsored by the College of Charleston and provides special academic and cultural opportunities for a limited number of first generation high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.
