The College of Charleston is the only institution in South Carolina to host 2010 College Summit, a nationwide non-profit program aimed at getting more local low-income, high-achieving high school students to attend college. While the program is hosted by the College of Charleston, programming is non-institution specific and is designed to build college-going culture among this population of students. The program goes from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10 and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11.

About 60 high school students are participating in this year’s College Summit on the College of Charleston campus with the goal of getting them to see college as a viable option and to help with some of the stumbling blocks in the admission process. By the end of the four-day session (which began Thursday), students will have completed key components of the application process (including essays, application and college list) and learned options for financing their education.

“The College is proud to host 2010 College Summit,” says Debbie Counts, associate director of admissions. “Every year, a diverse pool of talented students who could succeed in college never even apply. We are committed to helping these students realize their potential and build a college-ready culture.”

College Summit is a national nonprofit organization that partners with schools and districts to strengthen college-going culture and increase college enrollment rates, so that all students graduate career and college-ready.
