The College of Charleston’s Student Government Association will be delivering over $525 worth of food to the Carolina Homeless Veterans Organization as part of a campus-wide donation.
The SGA will be making the delivery to the Center on July 27 at 3 p.m. The Center is located at 1707 McLeod Avenue on James Island.
Last fall, SGA approached Dining Services about starting a program that allowed leftover Dining Dollars from a student’s account to be donated to a fund. That fund would later be used to buy food for a charitable organization in the Charleston community.
Usually leftover Dining Dollars from the spring semester are erased at the end of the year.
Dining Services agreed with the idea and established a program called “Dining Dollars for the Homeless”. The SGA Senate voted to give the money to the Carolina Homeless Veterans Organization.
SGA and Dining Services publicized the opportunity to the student body during the spring semester and collected leftover Dining Dollars for a three-week period. During that time period, SGA successfully raised $525.04.
